Those supposed EPUB2's don't conform to the rules.
Validate and correct each individual book you WILL be merging.
Merge (and much of calibre) functions only on validly formatted books.

META-INF/container.xml is required by the EPUB standard. If META-INF/container.xml isn't there, it's not a valid epub.

Where did the epub(s) with this problem come from?

When you merge books in your Calibre library, do the individual books remain in your library as individual books?

In other words, does EpubMerge create an entirely new book in your library or does it combine the books so that you can't manage them individually anymore?

It creates a new book. The source books are not changed by EpubMerge.

I'm having a problem and I don't know what is causing it. I'm trying to merge several epubs and getting the following message:

The error suggests that the 2nd book in the merge has a missing or empty idref attribute on one of the tags in its metadata.

If you can post or otherwise get me the epub(s) causing the problem, I can probably tell for sure.

However, in any case, the answer is probably going to be to fix the input epub. Convert usually works, Polishing or Modify Epub might. I haven't tried the epub validation in the new built-in editor very much, but it may correct such problems, too.

Thanks. Actually the epub is one of a pair of 3 part ones that I had merged together as part of a project. I'm not sure which of them it is as yet. I figured out which it was. It's Dorothy's Double. Something in my splicing of the 3 part book isn't working right. I went back over my epub that was giving trouble and must have done something right that corrected the error since it spliced in with the other books properly this time. Thanks for the heads up on what my problem was.

With Kovid's gracious help, I've switched over to using Transifex for translations for my plugins.

You can now help out by providing translations without having to install anything. All you need is to create an account on a web site and jump in to translating. The link to EpubMerge's translations specifically is here.

Attached is a test version that should work for both the existing 1.X calibre and the upcoming 2.X version calibre. 2.x will use PyQt5 which requires changes to virtually all plugins.

This version needs to be tested with the existing calibre.

Brave souls to test with with the beta 2.X version would also be appreciated. Links to the 2.X beta and discussion of the transition (for plugins) can be see at: Attn plugin developers: calibre moving to Qt 5.

Is it possible to have an option: "exclude Author in comment". It doesn't make sense when all book titles are followed by "by the_same_Author_A"

Test version that doesn't include 'by author' in comments if only one author.

'... by author' is included if more than one author, even if it's the same set of authors across all books.
