Yawn. Wake me up when they're available in the shops.

It makes one wonder what the market will be for a 19" screen. It's too big for a hand-held reading device, but too small for things like advertising screens, unless used in some sort of "array".

I don't think they will ever be available. These articles aren't meant to herald new devices - they're only published to keep our hopes up so we won't give up and go to the dark side (iPad, or any other LCD reading device) . |

In my experience, moving parts break. I don't think I'll be buying the first generation of any bendy readers!

But the 19" screens they're talking about here are black and white aren't they? Fashion magazines and other image-heavy material in black and white only? Can't see it myself - or indeed colour e-ink by the end of the year.
I suppose there could be a highly specialised market for 19" e-ink monitors for those folks who can't look at an LCD screen without their eyes bleeding, but my guess is that market would be pretty small... Cheers, Pete |

Lazy me - I didn't check further what it was about No, such a screen would need to be colour.

I'm assuming it's for business use like hospitals and schools. Though I'm wondering when they will have it in color.

I'm not too sure many organisations would take a backward step in re-adopting monochrome displays though. |

Looks like a rehash of the Skiff ad-campaign materials. Probably the same hands modeling the device...

Sure, though I'd suggest that a 19" e-ink screen that refreshes fast enough for it to be usable in a general-purpose computing (as opposed to 'read a whole page of text then refresh...') wouldn't be much better energy-wise than, say, those ultra-low power monitors that someone showed off recently (LG? Samsung?) that were powered by USB. And they were colour.
Obviously though, until something actually ships this is all speculation.<shrug> Pete |
