Maximizing graphic

Pardon me if this has been answered elsewhere.

I am reading a book that has two maps at the beginning of the book. Online, I was able to find a fan-created color map with much more detail. I figured out how to add the graphic to the book (following the two original maps). However, when I view the book (I bookmarked the new map) in my iPad, the image appears to have shrunk. It is a large image. I'd like for it to extend to the full width of the screen. If it has to scroll of the bottom edge (onto another page, I presume), that's fine. My concern is that I'd like to be able to see as much details as possible.

I poked around in Sigil and tried making some changes to the page where the image appears. When I deleted some html code (CSS code?), the image changed size on the screen. However, when I did a Save As and then viewed the new ePub from Calibre's eBook viewer, the image was back to its small size.

Suggestions?

Thanks, in advance.

Try setting the width or height attribute of the image to 95% and delete the other dimension attribute, like this:-
<img height="95%" src="../Images/map.jpg" />
or
<img width="95%" src="../Images/map.jpg" />

For issues like this, when I do it, I take the photo through a photo editting software, whichever you prefer and cut the image right down the middle. Then, like what Dillinquent posted, I will set a percentage for how big I want the image then make sure it will take up 2 pages. Also, I will make sure that the pages line up so that if I have my iPad in landscape view, then both images show up as 1 taking up both of the pages present.

Seems to work good for me that way. Might seem like a lot of work, but I only have to do it once, then once the ePub is saved and backed up, it never has to be done again

P.S Also, to make it look like one big map, I set the margins to 0 to make sure there is no white space in-between.

I think I get the idea. I played around with the width and height settings but all it seemed to do was stretch the map oddly (and unreadably ... is that a word?). And how do I make the margins 0?

Assuming you are using iBooks, you can double tap any image in a book and iBooks will display it in a viewer full size where you can enlarge/shrink or otherwise scroll around the image.

I tend to save the images full size in the epub but set them to a smaller but readable size when displayed on the page and use the double tap if I want to be able to zoom into the detail.

You might not want to use a global search and replace to set width or height on all images. If images are already smaller than your screen, it will try to enlarge them resulting in images that look worse than before. I ran in to this problem myself with a book having LARGE images and ones that were smaller than the screen.
