Sony Outlet?

Question: Does Sony have an outlet where they sell returns as refurbished products? So many people here seem to be returning their 505's (many to buy a Kindle instead--different strokes...). I'd like to pick up a cheap almost-new 505 if possible.

That's a good question. With all this talk about the kindle, I'm about to decide on a Sony, but I think I'll stick with the 505. I've been watching prices on ebay to see how the kindle would influence that market. My amatuer, totally unscientific findings are that the prices on the PRS-500's may have come down a little, but the prices on the 505's are still just a little less then new. Of course, that's for those of us living in the states, and adding S&H.
It would be nice to know where all the returned Sony's ended up. I know Gateway has an official seller on ebay for their stuff.

There is a Sony brick-and-mortar store in an outlet mall north of Seattle. However I was in there during the summer and I couldn't find the 500 anywhere. No idea about the current state of the 505.

Found this listing of Sony Outlet stores. I am not sure how up to date it is. I know for sure that the one in San Marcos, TX is still around. I haven't been in there to see if they have any readers available. Hope this helps.

The outlet store in Tracy, CA has been gone for a year or more. Too bad because I used to get great buys on refurbished items there and never had a problem with any of them.

That Tracy store moved to Gilroy. However, the Gilroy store is nothing like the one in Tracy. The deals just aren't all that great there. I used to take a trip to the store in Tracy every month or so just to see all the "new" things they had. These days it's all the same stuff, though their computers are priced pretty well.

As for the reader, they were selling the PRS-500 the last time I was there but it was brand new, so it was $300.

I happened to be in Gilroy yesterday (Nov 29) and was at the outlet center so stopped in the Sony store. They had PRS500's for $199 and the sign said they were new, not refurbished. No PRS505's that I saw. But the only thing I bought was a refurbished Walkman MP3 NW307 1gb with FM for $7.99. These originally sold for $120 when they first came out in 2005. Maybe in 2009 they'll have refurbished PRS500's for $30.

sony reader

I had the ebook , prs 500 for exactly 100 days and the screen broke. Sony advised me that it was my fault and charged me 185.00 to fix it. I had it exactly 38 days and the screen broke again. I treated this reader like a new born baby, like fine crystal and now they are telling me that they want another 245.00 to fix. I am so mad I could spit. Although this is a wonderful idea and I love the reader, sony is terrible about customer service. I would recommend not to buy this product. Sony does not have intregity with its customers. thanks craig
