Moon+ reader pro cover image size

I use mrpro on an original nexus7 and a galaxy note 2. I keep about 5000 books on each device and both have the same problem that in many cases the PNG of the cover stored in the .moonreader folder is large than the epub file even if I see the resolution of the cover images to low.

This must be a bug does anyone have either explanation or solution. A batch in-place image resized that works to a target file size would one workaround if moon reader can't be fixed
