PRS-650 Red...well, not so red...
Just received my PRS-650 in red. When I slipped it out of the padded envelope, I thought they had made a packaging mistake at the factory. It looks pink. As they only offer a pink version of the "pocket" version (and it is, indeed, a lighter color than what I received), I thought I would post my opinion (although I am a bit color-blind).
I guess I was expecting fire engine red. |

It's a "metallic" red.

The red looks different depending on the lighting conditions.

Can you post a picture because the red 650 is fairly dark. I suppose as grooks pointed out that depending on how the light is hitting it it could look like a dark pink.

I think it's a lighter red than the prs600; it is more magenta, isn't it?

I think the 650 red has less blue than the 505.
Color blindness also plays a factor. I sympathize; I have a weakness in the green receptors. |

I'd have to call it magenta or maybe "candy apple" red. However, I still think it's way closer to pink than red.
Turns out the unit was defective as all that would come up in the Reader Library application (OSX 10.6.5) was the name "Error" when the reader appeared in the sidebar. The two volumes mounted (Settings and Reader, if I remember correctly). Settings contained the Reader app installer and Reader had one folder in it named "database" which others up here have warned against mucking with. Any books I dropped into the Reader Library app never sync'd to the PRS650. However, dropping the ePubs directly into the "Reader" folder -did- work. I worked with Sony tech support for about 30 minutes and they decided to send me another, new PRS650 and take my old one back. Should be done next week. BTW, the techie said he would send me a black unit if I wished (and I did). |

I feel the same way. My wife took my broken red 505 in as an exchange for the 650, and my red 650 looks significantly more pink than the 505 did. I'm a bit disappointed as I was very frustrated that 300 pocket was sold in "Rose" rather than red. I was hoping for the same red.
My reader also doesn't read properly in the Sony Reader App. I hand loaded a book on it. But haven't updated to the newest reader Library software, so I figured that was it. I guess I'll need to call Sony. Not sure if I'm going to switch colors. |

When I got my 650, I had the choice between the red and the black. If the red was the same red as the 505, I would have gotten the red.

It looks "pink" to folks expecting fire engine, cherry red. To me it looks more like someone mixed a fair amount of red into a batch of silver Sony paint; ditto with the pink. If these were Crayola crayons, I'd call them silver-red and silver-pink.

See, when I personally look at the 650, it's clearly red. I'd never call it "pink" in a million years.
It's a different red than the 505, but it's nowhere near pink IMHO. |
