We got freezing rain and snow overnight. It's drizzling and just above freezing now, with more rain and warmer temps due over the weekend.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Sunday, when my daughter flies back to school. |

Well ... that was exciting .... 5 minutes of terror on a Saturday afternoon ....
Temps had climbed into the 60's F by noon and the Weather Service had put most of the state under a Severe Thunderstorm & Tornado Watch .... because yet another cold front was moving in this afternoon ... Then around 1:30 we heard the tornado sirens go off in neighboring Chapel Hill ... I turned on the TV to find that a line of severe storms with 60+ mph straight line winds & embedded funnel clouds was heading toward us - and panicked a bit when the announcer named our street in Durham as being the next location impacted .... by the time I ran to the deck doors to look out it was on us - it looked like waves were breaking over the deck onto the sliding glass doors - the rain was so heavy I couldn't see the street ... which was flooded .... and branches were falling everywhere ... And then it was over! Just like that .... the sky lightened, the winds abruptly died down, and [knock on wood] the power stayed on .... Going on a reconnaissance in a bit to pick up branches and look for any damage ... Yikes! |

Reading this I'm glad I live in the Netherlands, where, this morning, it was gray and rainy and later it was sunny and nice. |

In general, when buying a home, it's always a good idea to select one that's near a trailer park. Tornadoes always strike them first. They're like lightning rods for tornadoes. |

It's finally cooler today, only going up to 29 C. We're coming off a weekend of horrific heat (including the hottest night on record) and severe-to-catastrophic fire danger over much of the state. The cooler weather probably isn't of much comfort to the people who lost their homes or loved ones in the bushfires over the weekend. RIP.

The good news is it will be 0C tomorrow. The bad news is there will be a 60km/h wind with gusts up to 80km/h.

So - everyone is panicking - at the forecast of possible mixture of cold rain/snow flurries! Pouring brine onto the roads!
[Canada is probably laughing itself silly watching how NC reacts to the threat of ...... flurries!] *Should we actually get snow tonight/tomorrow and I'm snowed in ... this post will self-destruct!* |

Canada would never laugh at the misfortunes of others, it knows how many problems can be caused by drivers that are unfamiliar with adverse weather.
(Evil Canada, however, is snickering, pointing and elbowing Russia whilst whispering unkind comments...) |
