Battery needs frequent recharge

A PRS 950 is needing its battery to be recharged after too short of a reading interval...a much shorter interval that in its past.

Besides doing a simple reset, is there any other possible remedy to try?

Thanks!

V, Yes, but is there an easy way to have a new battery installed?

V, I don't have any interest in trying to find a replacement battery and installing it.

I wish there was another option to replacing the battery on the 950.

Ah, if wishes were horses...

The symptom you mention indicates the battery is nearing the end of its life. The is normal behavior (ever decreasing run time and charge retention) for this type of battery. The only cure is replacing the battery, either just the battery in your current device or the complete device.

Over the decades, I've been forced to retire several devices, including the Clie UX-50 in my avatar, for this reason. By the time the battery life became too short replacement with newer and better devices proved the better value.

d, Unfortunately, I don't think this is true with respect to the PRS 950. I don't believe there is a better ereader in the offing.

i would agree with you but for one thing: it doesn't allow any font choices...font sizes...yes...but no font choices. sony's T-series does, however.

Install PRS+ and you have any font choice you want, you're only limited by the number of fonts you install to the reader.

I would hunt down a battery and replace it to keep it going. It's not very difficult to take the x50 series of readers apart at all, I swapped screens between shells on the 350.

It's four screws and a little careful prying. No glue or anything. But if the OP is not comfortable working on his 950, he could probably find a computer repair shop that would do it for him -- once shown the video. It would literally take about five or ten minutes.

He could also buy a used 950 on ebay but will eventually have the same problem, as their batteries are getting old.

I would find someone to change out the battery for you. It sounds like it would be worth it to you. I'm guessing that, if a Sony Service Center would do it, they would charge quite a bit more than buying a battery kit and paying a computer shop to do it for you.

r, Good idea, which I plan to try doing.

Does the repair shop guy need to see a video?

And where is the video?

Thanks!

Newpower99 sell batteries for many devices inc prs650. I looked for the 950 (as I have 2) but couldn't see it. They supply the battery, some simple tools and a video-you can see copies of the videos on you-tube -good if you have trouble sleeping

Try Googling "prs950 battery replacement video" and you'll get nearly 250K hits, in under half a second, starting with video references...

Edit: Taken back, a quick browse only ended up with a Service Manual PDF...
