How do you replace the built-in fonts?

Now that the Universal Flasher allows you to change the three built-in fonts, how do you go about doing it? Do you just rename the .ttf files? Or do you have to change the internal font names with a font editor? Will the Reader properly paginate with other fonts? Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

use FontCreator to change font names. i've changed courier 10 to consolas, dutch 801 to trebuchet ms and swis721 to calibri. looks much better.

Getting pagination errors

I used FontCreator to rename the fonts in Georgia to match the default Dutch 801 Roman, and the new font does appear--and looks much nicer!--but every page is losing a word or line. This happens at all three sizes. Any ideas what's happening here?

Just changing the font names does not change the font glyphs in the TTF files.

Other ways of changing the fonts displayed are using custom PDFs such as those produced by FeedBooks or embedding them directly in the LRF file via BookDesigner. The first option creates a fixed size font that cannot be changed as you read while the second option creates a bigger LRF file and causes more delay (about 3 times) between pages.

Probably your fonts in some specifics differs from the built-in fonts and Reader's renderer doesn't hadle it properly. Compare the various font characteristics, maybe you can see something.

RWOOD - what does this mean? I was considering simply changing the Cambria.ttf to the tt0003m_.ttf and use the Universal Flasher to download it. Are you suggesting it will take more than this to work?

I am guessing that to keep things consistent and see what it really will look like, you would also have to copy the name-changed font into the CONNECT program?

C:\Program Files\Sony\CONNECT Reader\Data\fonts

That way you can see what you will get?

reader makes cache of every book page flow. all you need is to delete book from reader memory or memory card, change your font in connect reader as well, and then write book on reader again. it will reflow book according to the new font.

It works!

Thanks, shd! Did as you recommended (replaced fonts in Connect and the Reader, deleted books on the Reader, then re-transferred) and everything is working--and looking--great!
