This is a big deal. This would get Harry Potter in eBook format in the hands of a lot of people. And people who are thinking of getting a reader just might go Sony as they'll get an HP Reader and the eBooks.
Also, kids who have not read HP may be asking their parents for a Sony HP Reader. So really, this is a big deal and yes, it's good news for Sony. |

The point I was trying to raise is that the Sony Reader program is not dead. I'm not saying that it will beat BN and/or Amazon in the Reader Race.
This is a reason to be glad that Sony continues as a viable participant. Oh, and anyone who has followed this section for very long knows that new Sony reader products get announced in the fall. I was at the point of believing that there would be no such announcement this fall. Boy, was I wrong. Last edited by advocate2; 06-23-2011 at 03:17 PM. |

I wonder if we'll see some new Sony Reader at or around the same time (October would be about right for them to come out with a new model) or if it'll be a current model(s).

Do you think Sony would not come out with new Readers? Especially an HP themed Reader with the HP eBooks on them. And if they are formatted well, Sony can say the HP eBooks are better on a Sony then a Kindle.

As I said in the thread I started, when the HP audiobooks came out Apple made a Harry Potter special edition iPod. It is NOT a stretch to add Sony + JKR + HP eBooks (finally) + a new HP Sony reader. Sure it's wishful thinking, but it's really not a huge leap.
HP has a massive following of all ages and incomes. People collect all kinds of things. A Harry Potter themed reader would be a very big deal. Many Potter fans have read the series numerous times. The appeal of being able to carry all 7 books and to make notes and highlights of favorite passages or for discussion in one little device (compared to the size & weight of the entire series) is a huge, huge deal. Quote from the JKR & Sony Pottermore press release: "As the Pottermore Shop develops, it is intended that it should include further products designed specifically for Harry Potter fans, offering a potential outlet for Sony products and services related to Pottermore." |

I could definitely see myself getting a Potter branded Sony, and I would also consider them (depending on the price) as gifts for my nieces and nephew.

I can't wait to see what Sony comes up with. I'd love a HP Sony reader.

This is more specific than having an announcement on the Sony.com website. The implication of being on the ebookstore.sony.com website is that while Sony is involved with the Pottermore initiative, the involvement/promotion will bear fruit for the Ereader division (among other parts of Sony). So yeah, can't wait for the dragon skin cover reader. Last edited by sonyreaderfan; 06-25-2011 at 11:57 PM. |

Mmmmmm............
Actually, having just seen the quote from Poppaea,. I came over all peculiar - ooer.....
".....Sony’s philosophy of “make.believe“ is woven throughout the Pottermore journey ...." That's the "make.believe" that Sony listens to it's customers, realises they are important to it's wellbeing, gives them really good service, keeps prices reasonable, takes a great effort over making it's software really simple and intuitive ................. ? |
