Create collections w/o Library or Calibre?

Is there a way to edit/hack the XML files in the Sony Reader to create collections/tags for the books already in the Reader? I tend to load books onto my reader with drag-and-drop rather than using the interface software, and can't make collections that way.

Does anyone know where the collections data is stored in the Reader, and is there a way I can edit one of those files to create collections without having to remove a bunch of books & reload them?

Alternatively, you could try to edit the media.xml file by hand.

You can use the Sony Reader software to build a collection of books already on the reader. When the reader is highlighted, just click the plus sign in the bottom left corner of the screen and a new empty collection will be created on the reader. You can then drag books from the right hand side of the screen and drop them on the collection and they will be added to the collection.

Aside from the collection builder linked to by eagle and the Sony software suggestion by dordale, perhaps this file manager/collection builder?

Thanks, all! I've just gotten a new computer (Vista), so I'm busy sorting out programs and installations, but I'll check those out and let people know if I still need help.
