Replace Sticky questions with a wiki
Let me be somewhat provocative. Most of the sticky threads served a purpose. But no longer. Who is going to wade through 738 postings looking for the latest status of "Kobo future firmware feature request thread"?
Similar with 215 postings in Quick Guide to Shelf Mgmt, etc. Sorry but that's no longer quick. Instead replace each of the stickys with a wikipedia page. Or set of pages. For example the firmware feature requests could each have a one line entry on a master page with a detail page describing the feature request and the scenario. Once it's in the firmware then it gets moved to the bottom of the feature request wiki page as done. Some with the FAQ page. One line per FAQ entry with a paragraph or a detail page describing the FAQ. Now yes this means work for the MobileRead system administrators. OTOH once it's setup this site, in my opinion, becomes a lot easier for regular folks to use. |

Um no.. The wiki is user edited. If you would like to do this go for it.

So what's the problem with users editing a wiki?
Let me add a clarification. This would be a wiki added by the MobileReads system admins so the forum logins would work and a link, or links, placed at the top of each forum. |

Here is a direct link to the Kobo section of the wiki. Yes, a lot of information from the forum is not listed here. The question is, who is willing to devote their time to making the updates?

Yep, the OP's points are valid as far as I'm concerned as well.
Part of the solution may be to release the 'sticky' from those that are both too long and outdated. Other solutions?? |

Personally I do not think using the Wiki is a good idea. The majority of users do not realize one exists in the first place. Frankly it's hard enough to get people to sensibly use threads in a forum, let alone manage info in a Wiki.
Plus all that will happen is that we will get info being posted in both the Wiki and in Forums, and someone will have a heck of a task trying to keep the two in step. |

Seeing as how Tony has identified the need for such a resource I think it only fair to nominate him as curator of this idea. Tony, how soon can you get started? How long do you estimate it will take you, and what is the best way for all of us to contribute our invaluable advice? Perhaps you'll be kind enough to provide an email as well as a cell phone number so we can update you as quickly as possible, uhm, around the clock seeing as we have international contributors.

Excellent. There already is such in place. So a moderator could then create new sticky postings replacing the current sticky postings. The body of the posting contains a link directly to an appropriate Wiki page. And then lock the posting so folks can't reply to it. |

Only for doing UPDATES. But as I said I really doubt that most users will ever find it.
Tony; If you are so keen please start to create pages! |
