My history with e-reading devices

Just to kill time, I recently made a list of all the e-readers I've owned over the years. I used to have quite a collection, but I'm on a purging kick (from watching too many episodes of Hoarders on A&E) and am down to just two.

Here's the list of what I've owned over the years, and photos of the legacy devices. Some of these are PDAs but I did a fair amount of ebook reading on them.

Casio Z-7000 "Zoomer" - PDA 1993

Apple Newton - PDA 1993

Sharp PT-9000 - tablet PC 1995

HP OmniGo 100 - pocket PC 1995

Palm III - PDA 1999

Franklin Ebookman - eReader 2001

Sony PRS-500 - 2006

Cybook Gen 3 - 2007

Sony PRS-505 silver - 2008

Sony PRS-505 red - 2009
* still have, but will probably sell when I get the Sony 350

Kindle 2 - 2009

Sony 600 Touch Edition - 2009

Apple iPad - 2010

Sony 350 Pocket Edition - 2010
*on order in pink

Thanks. My 505 is now hiding behind a box and won't come out.

I'm at the opposite end from you: I've been using a computer for Project Gutenberg since about 1993, and moved to a Sony PRS-505 in 2009. It sure stuck, though. Now you couldn't pry it from my hands. I wonder how I ever lived without it (and when I get near Baen, or one of O'Reilly's sales, I kind of wish I did).

Great pictures, by the way!

I'm trying to emulate you, Worldwalker, and minimize. Trying to have fewer gadgets in my life instead of always picking up the newest and cutest.

I hung onto the Casio (first pic) and the HP OmniGo (third pic) for quite a few years, because I was on the development teams. I gave the Casio to another engineer a few years ago, and the HP is apparently now in a museum somewhere in Palo Alto.

I am embarrassed to publish my scanty list.

The first ebook 1996 on i386.
Big time gap...until
Sony Reader PRS-500 - Jan. 2007
Sony Reader PRS-505 - Jan. 2008

Planning to get 650 in the near future when the price of the reader+cover+charger<=£200, although my resolve might break sooner.

There's nothing wrong with being true to a few readers over the years.

I've been rather fickle with mine...always looking for something shinier.

I also suffer from gadget lust coupled with with a reading addiction. I stuck with the PDA/smartphone a bit longer, but now I've been bitten by E-Ink bug, too. Luckily, I like selling eBay as much as I like buying gadgets.

My gadgets attached, in order:

^^ You get the gold star for putting up photos of all of them!

Those Palm Pilots bring back fond memories. I still have my Palm 3. It amazes me how light it is, plus it runs on good old AAA batteries.
