ePub margins : @page vs stylesheet.css

I have noticed that the stylesheet.css generated by calibre contains settings for margin-top, -right, -bottom and -left, with -top and -bottom always set to zero. However margin-top and -bottom are set within each html file using @page instead. Is this necessary for ePub files or is it just the way that calibre works? Does it make any difference where these values are specified?

No it doesn't make any difference. The reason they are not in stylesheet.css is because individual html files might need different margins and stylesheet.css is common to all.
