Just curious about those posting about the Kindle "Paperweight"
are you doing that to be funny, or is it autocorrect?

Hey, it was twobob's thread. Of course he did it just to be funny! If you read his other threads in the Dev Corner, you will see that he is a prolific word-player.
See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_play Of course, that could wreak havoc for non-English speakers (especially if using machine translation). Last edited by geekmaster; 09-13-2012 at 01:49 PM. |

Actually I've seen that play on words on several different forums, so I suspect it is a play on the name that is coming to the minds of a lot of people.

It is a bit of a rubbish name, so it fully deserves some word play.... including the one geekmaster mentions in that other thread

That's what I figured, but I'd seen it used so unironically, I thought it was plausible that in some cases, it was autocorrect that was interfering...

"Kindle Paperweight" was even used in the title of a Twit.tv episode:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6lqRb8oVTw And "Papershite" can be found in the Amazon Kindle Help forum: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...x2TLJPCSO1T38I So these "Satiric Misspellings" are not unique to MobileRead. Last edited by geekmaster; 09-13-2012 at 03:02 PM. |

I like it. I named mine "Galadriel the Paperwaite" instead of just Galadriel.

I admit Amazon must have been on something when they named it Kindle Paperwhite.

Very true. It doesn't flow easily off the tongue, nor make much sense, unless you talk in Yoda: "Backwards talk I do"....Always found the Yoda-speak very annoying!

Of course, people gave Apple all sorts of cr*p for the name iPad and that seems to have worked out ok for them.
