I voted for Casino Royale. The movies are good, but the books are better.
You can't help but wonder if the copyright owners are pulling a Disney; keeping certain items "in the vault" in the hopes of larger sales during those time when they are on sale "before they go back into the vault forever."

"Forever" as in "next time."

I voted for The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan for two reasons:

1) I really do want to read it.
2) The paperback edition is only 160 pages, and some of the monster length books we've been reading has been cutting into some other books I want to read.

Thanks for your efforts, dreams. Your post indicates that The Thirty-Nine Steps is the only one available for free.

That's pretty unusual for these Book Club votes, isn't it? Aren't there usually quite a number of public domain selections to choose from?

You are welcome. Due to the variety of formats and pricing (a couple are free, the rest are for purchase) , I decided to use the search engine results for members to begin checking if it is even available for purchase in their country and to check pricing. I found the same book could have a range of prices.

Dead (ish) by MR author Naomi Kramer is free also.

I don't know about the number of PD selections in each month's voting, as I am pretty new to actively participating. I think it depends on what the members nominate for each month's category.

I think it would be a good idea if each nomination had availability and price range included with the book blurb. I think one of the nominated books was only showing at 2 UK bookstores.

I would vote for Shutter Island, but I have a $5 limit on ebook spending and I won't be paying $10 for it. Bugga!

Thanks dreams again for the links you are a champ

Shutter Island. 336 pages. $9.99 at Amazon.
The Thirty-Nine Steps. 160 pages. Free here at MobileRead.

Some folks haven't finished last month's selection, to say nothing of Gone With The Wind.

But if you vote for Last Man Standing, you will vote for a book that's more a thriller and less a horror book.
