The incredible stupidity of Apple!
So Apple has thrown open it's doors to authors and indie publishers to submit their works to iBookstore.
But there's a 'gotcha'. You *MUST* use iTunes Producer - and it *ONLY* works on a Mac system. (You *could* install OS X on your Linux or Win system in dual-boot mode, but who needs the hassle?) Guess I'm buying a Dell Mini 910 and building me a 'Hackintosh' netbook.) Way to go, Apple! (NOT!) Derek |

It's a pretty limited audience vs. the Kindle store, or even B&N. Currently only iPad owners can access it.
Is it really worth the bother right now? |

They will also direct you to Smashwords or Bookbaby (two of their approved aggregators) I think if you want someone else to handle the submission. |

Smashwords has made a deal with Apple for publishing the ebooks form Smashwords onto iPad. You could always publish on Smashwords and then people with iPads could read your work, as well as everyone with all the other ereaders. Why limit yourself?

Huh? It's 'incedibly stupid' of a commercial entity to try and leverage the interest in their piece of hot new tech into additional sales of their other hardware or OS? Seems pretty obvious to me; you may not like it (there's just a suggestion of that in the tone of your post ) but as others have said there are alternatives e.g. Smashwords - or just not not bothering at all of course, if you don't think it's worth the effort.
Cheers, Pete |

I don't think they do either. I have posted a number of times on different forums the ironic side of Apple, promoting open source yet (a) don't really contribute back, and (b) don't support open source operating systems. Heck they took stuff from the BSD system yet don't support any BSD flavour for their software. Grumble grumble.

Yeah, I've barely taken a look at iBooks. The Kindle store is far superior.

@delphidb96 I don't think you can legally run OSX on a Win or Linux PC in dual boot mode because Apple only licenses OSX for distribution on Apple hardware, but I guess it can technically be done.
This same Apple-strings-attached philosophy is why you have to have a Mac to create iPhoneOS apps too. |
