Conversion of comics (CBR/CBZ)

Hi, first kovidgoyal, thanks for creating Calibre, i love this software, and save me from make all work by hand, THANXS

I have a ebook iLiber EB600, that have a screen of 600x800, 8 shades

I have two questions:

**IMPORTANT**
- There is a way to make all images 600x800? not 729x554 or whatever.. my ebook have all the 600x800 screen usable, and my handmade 600x800 ebooks looks great

*Not important... ^_^
- Because my ebook only have 8 shades of grays, the best is to select 8 colors for png, because the resulting epub is smaller. But the quality is not very good in 8 colors in Calibre , but using imagemagick i can make a lot better looking 8 colors png.
There is a way to tweak this in Calibre?

When I try to convert CBR/CBZ to LRT it works in perfect order as long as I have the file name for the image like 000,001,002,003 etc however when I try to convert the CBR/CBZ to ZIP it does not sort them in order at all. e.g. Page 000, then 100,101 then 400 etc. Is there anyway to fix this? I prefer to just convert to ZIP file straight away and it will be in order? Rather then converting CBZ, CBR to LRT then ZIP which i have been doing?

Is there anyway to get the converter to handle unicode characters? The converter doesn't seem to have a problem with the archive having unicode characters in it but gives an error when it encounters unicode file names inside of the archive.

I am having problems converting cbr files. It won't convert them. I tried changing the file name to a rar file to see if that would help. I want to convert it to prc format to read on my kindle. It just keep getting a fail to convert message.

Post the actual error message. To get it, go to the jobs manager (click on the spinny thing in the lower right corner), select the failed job and click to see the details. Copy and paste what you see.

Edit: Also, from what I know, don't the Kindles natively read MOBI? Wouldn't that be a better choice as conversion target?

Your correct i want to convert to mobi. I had read somewhere that you had to rename the cbr file to a rar file to get it to work. But I first tried just to convert it from cbr to mobi it didn't work. I am posting the error.

The error is saying that this is not a rar file. As I understand it the r in cbr stands for rar file. Maybe this was zipped up in which case it needs to be changed to cbz (z for zip) instead of cbr.

Sorry I have come late to this but I have an issue converting CBR files with the latest version of Calibre.

Every time I select a CBR and click on convert Calibre freezes becomes unresponsive and I have tto kill it with task man.

Anyideas?

Are you sure it freezes? The conversion tasks can take quite some time depending on the source material. How long did you wait?

If you have a Windows machine go to Preferences - Behavior and change Job priority from Normal to Low (may require a restart). This should ensure your machine stays responsive during long conversions.

thanks for your help guys. It does not get as far as the normal convert menu (where you select format etc.). Should I not expect that as an option? I have converted some differerent formats before and normally get that menu so I was expecting that.

I waited a good 5-10 mins before killing the task off in task manager.

I have tested the CBR files in comical and they work fine in that. I've tested 4 different comics.

I have to admit this is a new build so I have not tried converting before on this install of windows (recently needed a re-build) so I'll try that today

That sounds like something is wrong. How big is the file you're trying to convert? Did the computer work while you were waiting for the conversion window to open?
