That's a wrap folks. My guess is that Amazon is doing this well in advance of any substantial build-up to a Kindle Fire 2. As the rumors say, it's likely that it'll be the 2nd half of 2012 before we see anything, and this timing would fit in with that.

Was considering buying one but lack of microSD slot stopped me. What are the chances the newer version will include an expansion slot?

I'd put the chances of a MicroSD card being added as fairly slim. They used to have one in the Kindle, but it was removed in later releases, and given Amazon's push towards cloud based streaming content, I think they see local storage as being less important.

If there was a push for more local storage I would expect the approach would be the same as Apples, add models with more storage built in as this ups the profit margin.

So far I really like it. The user interface is fantastic. I love the way it looks and how responsive it is. I can see why people use it as an ereader. I like it much better than the Nook Color, so far.
