Kovidgoyal,

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a UI please? And in what sense do the K2 ad DX support folders.

Yes, I get you. So do you think that creating a UI to access K2/DX folders is doable? Possibly within the scope of Calibre?

It's certainly do-able, but I don't have much interest in (or talent at) writing device specific software

Kovid... Whats totally lame about that is if they truly dont care about power users... They advertize the DX to be able to hold 3500 books... Can you imagine what a nightmare 3500 books would be without folders to organize them? They have got to pull their heads out of their rumpuses on this issue... It's ridiculous.

Why would they? They would only care if they start losing sales or if they get really bad review in a mainstream press (which is really just another variant of "losing sales").

Given DX shortages and almost sickening fanboism of Kindle crowd, there is very little hope on that front, except maybe Apple releasing some very extraodinary tablet or BN device being much better than Kindle (which is not really that hard). I'm not very optimisitic, though.

I dunno' but I think there's a certain irrationality to all this. Surely, it's just a matter of time before someone's going to come up with a product that's going to blast all the competition into oblivion. I mean, it's still early days and Amazon are kinda' ahead in this race - maybe neck to neck with Sony. But getting important matters like folder management wrong will almost certainly lose Amazon customers.

I don;t know about anyone else, but at this stage, I've even be tempted to sell my DX and consider getting a DR1000s. PDF rendering is apparently much crisper. Or maybe I should wait for Sony to come up with 9.7 inch screen. And maybe that would be GAME OVER - at least for me.

Once a reasonably price device with at least a9.7" screen with good PDF rendering comes about, the DX will so drop in value.
