Amazon Replacing Kindle Books With Corrected Versions

Over the past several weeks, I have received emails from Amazon CS offering updated corrected versions of Kindle books that contained errors [So far Ender's Game and Tai-Pan]. The emails warn that replacing the books will erase highlights and bookmarks from the current copy, giving you a chance to back them up before requesting the updated version be sent to your Kindle. Once you reply to the email, a new version is sent to the Kindle with the faulty copy.

I don't know if this is in response to customer complaints or is driven by the publishers [Tor and Dell for the above titles] - but this is a real step in supporting ebook quality - even after the sale!

I've got 2 such emails today, none before. Tai-Pan was one of them.

This is their way of getting updates out without breaking their promise after the 1984 deal. There was some coverage on TeleRead about it a while back IIRC.

It's nice to see them taking some action on this problem. Previously, I've had to call or email them and get the bad copy deleted and get a refund, then re-purchase the corrected book. I had to find out about the corrected version on my own. I complained about this several times.

If anyone updates Dragonflight, could they post here to let us know if the "fixed" book still contains the second in the series? It was original a two-title book, but now appears to only include the first in the series (although it's double the file size of the second ASIN of the same title).
