Question marks being added after letters that have French accents, how do I fix this?

Hey guys.

I'm reading a book with lots of french words and the ones that have accented letters view with a question mark attached. For example, cafés will turn into café?s. This behaviour does not exhibit itself using Calibre's reader, but does in the Sony Ebook software's reader.

I don't really know what's up. The source file is an RTF and I have converted it to LRF. The RTF displays the letters properly in the viewer and the LRF does not. I have not yet tried the RTF on the Sony PRS 505 itself yet, but I'm sure the result will be consistent.

Help me out, and thanks in advance.

Did you convert using calibre? If so, post this under the calibre forum so Kovid can see it.
