Is it possible to backup Reading Stats?
Is it possible to backup the reading stats on a Kobo? I'm waiting for a replacement for my Aura and it would be nice if I didn't have to lose my stats.

The reading stats are backed up on Kobo's cloud. But they only back up the stats by books from Kobo's store.

Although I don't know if it carries over to all devices... I only have one Glo... But when I did a factory reset, my 400+ hours became 2 hours right after. So any stats generated by side-loaded books will not be included...

Isn't it possible to copy the entire contents of the old Aura to his PC, then copy that to the new Aura and get all his reading stats back that way? And not rely on Kobo to sync correctly?

The stats for all books are in the database on the device. If you take a copy of the database from the old device, you could restore that to the new device. I'm not sure if it would work as I can't think if there is a specific key anywhere. But, you could extract the Event table data and restore that to the database on the device. That should work, but I haven't tried it.
I have done what Ripplinger suggests, but only to the same device. By that I mean I copied the user partition from the device, did a factory reset and played with some older firmware. Then I upgraded to the firmware I had been using and restored the data that I had copied. That worked. It might work for a different device, but I am not sure. Hmm, I just checked the database backups from two different Glo's I have that are logged into the same account. There is a difference in the "UserKey" column of the table "user". Extracting this data from the new device, restoring the data from the old device as above and then restoring this data to the new device should work. A bit of a pain, but it should get you there. |
