eReader Frozen

After a month of use, my eReader wouldn't turn on. Somehow I got it on but then it froze and wouldn't respond to any buttons and wouldn't turn off.

No problem....I'll return it under warranty.

It was sent to a Sony Repair centre and they want €75 before they start in case I damaged it. Is this normal?

I've seen similar behavior when the Reader's battery charge has been almost fully depleted. It has enough to display a single page, but not enough to do anything else. Try plugging it in over night then doing a reset (the small hole in the back) and see if that works.

It does sound like your battery was just completely drained. If you can get it back from the repair center, I'd try plugging it in to your computer and letting it charge for a good long while. (Make sure you're computer doesn't go to sleep while the reader is charging!) Even better get a Sony PSP charger and plug it into AC and charge it that way.

Sony is not an eReader. It does not have eReader software on it. It does not support eReader format. It's a Sony Reader. And for proper support here, specifying which model Sony Reader is a good idea.

As to Sony charging you, that's wrong. They should be looking at it under warranty and then if you did damage it (and they have proof) they can then charge you to fix it. But charging you up front in case you damaged it is wrong. Call them and speak to a supervisor and try to get it sorted.

Tried all that......left it to charge on a PC and also using a charger.

Please have a look at this thread:

After recharging a soft or hard reset may help.
