Question Sinking feelings, probably....

Quote from staff @ Waterstones following an order enquiry.....

"Don't know what's going to happen now, we were taken over this morning..."

More Russian oil proceeds, probably.

Goodbye local Sony ereader shop.... finally ?

Why the hell would there be sinking feelings for Waterstones' staff... bye bye bean counters, hello new CEO interested in books and hello new owner with money... overall good chance of greater stability and a real attempt to deal with modern marketing conditions... it's HMV that's still got the problems, £53 million still leaves £117 million of problems to deal with by the end of June...

Firstly, I was speaking from the viewpoint of existing, and possible future buyers of Sony ereaders. i.e. as it was, a patchy but "still there" source, just, surrounded by a certain amount of confusion admittedly...........

However.....

No matter how complete the staff's no doubt extensive knowledge of their new owner's intentions, love of books, & bankroll - I would probably have been feeling a tad concerned when coming in to work this morning, like the lady I spoke to ...............

Book stores are a dying breed whether you like it or not in their current form. At the end of the day a new owner might help things out better than them going bankrupt.
