Tropical, preferably Island settings
I would be grateful for suggestions regarding books which are set in tropical places, preferable islands. I like 'castaway on a desert island' situations. I've read Crusoe, Lucy Irvine's Castaway, and some less-than-brilliant but escapist Mills and Boon, and I'm currently reading My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell (I have the second in the series, but the third is hard to find except in a Kindle trilogy).
Have you read any good castaway books lately? Please tell me what they were. Thanks |

I enjoyed the true story of a plane crash in a hidden mountain valley of New Guinea.

Since Australia is referred to as an island, I highly recommend On the Beach by Nevil Shute Norway.

Not a castaway situation, but Hal Gordon's _Divers Down! Adventure Beneath Hawaiian Seas_ is a lot of fun, and was freely available as an audiobook a while back.

Joseph Conrad had a few books set in the tropics, but not about castaways. "Victory" was probably my favourite of them, although "Lord Jim" is by far more widely read.
"Pincher Martin" by William Golding is a pure castaway book, but it takes place in the North Atlantic, so not tropical at all. Still, it was quite a sensation in its time. |

Thanks for the suggestions which I'm listing for reference. I read "On the Beach" by Neville Shute many years ago and found it a bit gloomy. I'm really looking for escapist, summer reads.
More recommendations will be much appreciated. |

James A Michener's Adventures in Paradise is set in the South Pacific. Also, have you read Hawaii?

On The Island is a fun, small book. It is not really romance by the way, that is just a subplot.
