E-books: Battle brews over display alternatives

There is an article in my latest (Feb 22nd) EE Times trade journal --

http://eetimes.com/news/latest/showA...leID=223100020

It contains a technical overview of the technologies and some of the players. The title should say E-reader rather than E-book but I suspect only MobileRead people will notice.

Here is a link to the actual article. The one above sends you to a questionnaire form. Beside information on different technologies, it also gives perspectives of analyst who tracks epaper market.

Here is a quote on Mirasol display:

For now, however, "we are only going to see Mirasol-style displays for pocket- and pen-sized displays--and I mean literally on the side of a pen," predicted Envisioneering's Doherty. "You need very bright ambient light, and even so the colors offered by Mirasol are too washed out except for applications like highlighting text. Advertisers are definitely not going to want their ads displayed on a Mirasol."

i wonder if his feelings have changed about mirasol since then. What i saw at SID seemed ready to be in a reader. They , Mirasol, certainly feel so as well and are ramping up for mass production of their 5.7" display for a "partner to be announced". the partner is said to be readying a device for launch before the end of the year...

Based on your first hand impress, what do you think of Mirasol? Are they ready for prime time or do you think it still needs time to develop?

Also, have you get any hand on experience with Asus DR 900? From some of the review I read, it seems like the display is quite good.

Any impression on SiPix compared to E-ink?
