Calibre support for the Kobo e-reader

Hello,

the Kobo e-reader http://www.koboereader.com/ came out in Canada today, it is not -yet- supported by Calibre.

Here is the information you asked for:
• What e-book formats does your device support?
EPUB, PDF
• Is there a special directory on the device in which all e-book files should be placed?
No
• We also need information about your device that calibre will collect automatically. First, if your device supports SD cards, insert them. Then connect your device. In calibre go to Preferences->Advanced and click the “Debug device detection” button. This will create some debug output. Copy it to a file and repeat the process, this time with your device disconnected.

I've diffed the 2 files to extract the device info:

Please note that including font sizes in the CSS file disables Kobo's font scaling.

Thanks, Kovid. A reminder Calibre is user-supported. When the Kobo driver is released, I hope some of us Koboers (Koboites?) -- I will! -- will toss a few dollars over the transom as a thank you for all the incredible development work that has been done to date.

Do you have any thoughts as to why the same newspaper downloaded from Calibre display differently on the Kobo vs. the Kindle? I assume this is a Kobo issue and not a Calibre one?

Because the Kindle has special features for browsing periodicals. No EPUB based device except the SONY Daily Edition has such features.

Pardon my dumb question, but...

When the Kobo support is added to Calibre, will that mean users will not have to manually go into the epub file and delete the stylesheet.css file when loading books via Calibre?

TIA,

GG

No, that's a bug in Kobo, which will have to be fixed by the Kobo team.

ok

New to the forum. And like many Canadians I got myself a Kobo. So does this mean the driver for Calibre and Kobo is now active? I just downloaded Calibre. Do I have to find the new driver someplace?
