txtr Beagle?

Hello everyone,

are there any plans to create a device plugin for the txtr Beagle?

This is a very, very cheap e-Reader which can only receive content from an Android smartphone via Bluetooth (in fact, it doesn't even do any rendering itself, it only displays 600x800 greyscale bitmaps). There are various open-source implementations of the protocol available:

https://github.com/floe/opentxtr

Creating a plugin should be fairly straightforward, provided that Calibre can render to bitmaps.... is this possible?

Thanks, floe

No plans, but patches are welcome. A shortcut you can use to render books to bitmaps is convert to pdf in calibre and then use pdftoppm (which is bundled with calibre).

Thanks for the quick reply - is there any other plugin which also renders to bitmaps which I could use as a starting point?

Thumbs up

Hi,

I found the java source on github which allows to transfer PDFs or epubs to the txtr reader.

please see: https://github.com/schierla/jbeagle

Do you think it would be possible to add this to calibre?

Thanks
Frank
