Typesetting / Bookmaking Guide

I highly recommend to the many exalted ebookmakers on here the following PDF (formatted for the computer screen and/or printing):

memman.pdf

While technically it is the documentation of a particular LaTeX package, the first part entitled "Art and Theory" is an exceptionally good and fairly easy to understand guide to typesetting and bookmaking.

The only thing to keep in mind is that this guide is for making paper books. In other words, sensibly ignore/modify its counsel on margins and leaving empty pages to suit the eBook medium.

While we're at it, I strongly suggest Robert Bringhurst's Elements of Typographic Style. Though it's largely targeted at print, the information it presents (as well as how it's presented) is invaluable to anyone interested in typography and publication (electronic and print).

Here, here! I add my recommendation for that particular title.

The Chicago Manual of Style is also a good repository of certain typesetting norms.
