Does keeping your books in Calibre use up memory

I have 1200 books in Calibre. Most of them after editing really do not need to be there. Does having all these books in calibre use up memory ?
Thanks

When you're actually running Calibre, a little. But it's hardly a significant amount. With ~600 books in Calibre, it uses 85 Mb of RAM at startup. Not sure what the difference would be to load 1200 books, but not much, certainly.

Having books in Calibre will use hard disk space, which is not the same as memory, but even there it's a trivial amount compared to the available space.

All my books do "need" to be in Calibre -- I use its library management features extensively.

And at under 4 cents per GIGABYTE for hard disk space, it is a trival cost to keep all your books.
