Epub issue, pic does not show; Bug???
Hi,
I'm testing with Adobe digital editions a test ebook I found online called 'The great american novel' by 'John Q Public'. It's not a book, just a test epub to test some stuff. In the title page he has posted a smilie as his author picture. When I open the epub in Sigil, and save it, the image does appear in sigil, but not in ADE. How come? I've been looking like crazy, modifying the toc, the contents, the original doc, but to no avail. When I open the doc with 7z, and add the original content back into the epub, the image shows.... WHat's going on?? Bug?? |

in sigil?
I just downloaded sigil a couple of hours ago, hoping it would help me somewhat to make epubs. But sigil moves files around. |

Sigil will also toss un-manifested files that come in via a malformed EPUB (when you add files to a work in progress, they get manifested immediatly). |

ADE will not show images if there is an issue with image size i.e. if something in the image file properties leads it to think that the image is too large.
extract that image & check it's file properties. .I had this one time with a book cover image that looked fine in sigil but went AWOL in ade & on my sony reader. finding a similar image from another source & replacing it did the trick |

Sigil is not auto-correcting the path to the SVG image after it normalizes the ePub structure. Change this,
Code:
<object data="images/author-pic.svg" height="150" type="image/svg+xml" width="150"> Code:
<object data="../Images/author-pic.svg" height="150" type="image/svg+xml" width="150"> Quote:
Shows up fine in Sigil and ADE, once you fix the path. Last edited by Keroberos; 04-14-2012 at 04:40 PM. Reason: Added more info |

Funny thing is, I did that I did change the pic directory, without success.

You can also put the SVG image in a <img /> tag. That is also according to specs. In another post I researched some stuff about the SVG usage. There is more to it and actually in XHTML <object> is not recommended for HTML stuff.
See more info in this post. |

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend using the <object> tag. I did some more testing with the epub and got some odd results. Using the <object> tag works in Sigil, ADE 1.7.2 and Calibre's viewer, but does not in ADE 1.8.1 or Sony's Reader for PC software (which uses ADE mobile) or my Nook (which also incorrectly renders the svg image). It looks like the entire page gets covered by the object (text is there and selectable, but not visible). I attached a screenshot showing what I mean (the background color of the Title Page was set to black in the css file for this test).

I confirm the results of Kerberos. Within <img /> tag works fine in general.
