That's because The Rover and The Nature of a Crime were published in 1923, and won't be PD in the US until 1919 unless Disney steps in again to bribelobby Congress into extending copyright terms again. Of course, it's PD pretty much everywhere else in the world except the few countries with copyright terms worse than life+70 (Mexico?). Suspense was published posthumously in 1925, so it may become PD in the US in 1921.

The Karpathos collection is currently free, as I said the paid Delphi has a better TOC as has the MobileRead.

As to why. If you reside in the USA you can't ethically download the free mobileread collection but since the Karpathos version is available you could get /it/, assuming the while that everything is in order, ie they have the permission of Conrad's estate.

Oh, sorry, I always forget that our library hosts stuff that isn't necessarily PD in the U.S.

Latest release from Delphi is the complete works of Saki (the pen name of Hector Hugo Munroe). He specialised in short stories satirising Edwardian society. Wonderful author, and well worth a read if you've not come across him.

On sale now at Delphi for $1.49 (approx £1.06).

Yes, you were too quick. I have already edited my post.

One more thing concerning Joseph Conrad though: I don't think any of his works are still protected by copyright anywhere in the world. The Delphi edition is available everywhere, and they always publish different regional editions when some works are still under copyright.

Conrad's last novel, "The Rover", was published in 1923, which would mean that it is still protected by copyright in the US. All his other work is in the US public domain, though, because it was published prior to 1923. He died in 1924, so he's been in the public domain for a long time in countries with a life+70 (or shorter) copyright term.

He work is still in copyright in a few oddball places, such as Mexico, which has a "life + 100 years" copyright term.

Interesting. They must have overlooked that at Delphi Classics.

Perhaps, but Delphi maintains two different editions (when the copyright issue comes into question), and members of their site can simply choose the U.S.A or the British.

I am aware of that, but I don't see different editions for Conrad there.

That's Hector Hugh Munro (18 December 1870 – 14 November 1916), better known by the pen name Saki, and also frequently as H. H. Munro

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saki

And his satire still sounds today. try "The Toys of Peace" and "The Storyteller", the one with the punch line "A most improper story to tell children"
