Reuse PRS-505 original cover?
A friend of mine just bought a PRS-600, which doesn't include a cover.
I have a spare PRS-505 cover (the original one that comes in the box). I was wondering if this cover fits in the PRS-600. |

It will fit but you will need to initially stretch the clips to get the 600 in there. Once it is in it works fine. If you have to remove the 600 frequently then you may eventually break the clips.

Yep, there is a similar thread allready. I wasn't brave enough to give it a go as I was too afraid I could break one of the clips. The cover then wouldn't have worked with the 505 (which I kept) anymore. So I needed something for my 2nd reader anyways.

I found that while my 505 cover fit the 600, the "spine" or left edge of the reader would rub against the plastic clip because of the tight fit. Not a big problem but eventually one or the other would get scuffed. When I finally got the official 600 cover, there was more room between the two.

I absolutely agree with ken401. I didn't force the 505 cover on my 600, but the cover for the 600 was easy to get on.

I assumed that was the way it was supposed to fit LOL. In any case, I suggest using a chassis skin that covers the spine or just apply some 3M (these adhesives rarely have residue) adhesive tape on the length of the spine.
Have to admit a little R&D in materials research does do wonders. Everything 3M just lasts so much longer than no name crap. |

I used a 505 cover on my 600 and eventually (around 4 months) the clip on one side snapped and it is now useless.

I bought a cover for my 600, but compared with the 505 ones, allthough it's over a year older now, it feels rather cheap and the bend where I fold back the front of the cover already feels flimsy. Well, once the cover itself dissolves, I'll just take the spine and make my own. |
