an ipad and this iAnnotate for iPad app [ http://www.ajidev.com/iannotate/index.html] might be the best option if I understand you right. I'm sure more ipad options are available. I would always prefer an eink to an lcd but the products are't there yet. If the irex DR had had a user replaceable battery it would still for me be better than an ipad. it was sad to sell mine when battery held little charge.
