Samsung Exec confirms Mini iPad?
http://www.pclaunches.com/notebooks/...ng-display.php
Forgive me if this is old news but I find any info on the mini Ipad interesting. Another article, which explains the choice for a 7.85 inch screen for the mini. http://appadvice.com/appnn/2012/03/a...bled-ipad-mini Have to agree with the gist of the article's ending just a little. A sub $300 mini would be more than serious competition for everyone else, as in near fatal. If this comes out at around $249, bricks will be pooped out in vast quantities in many executive boardrooms around the world. How long will it be until we have quad-core 7-8 inch tabs coming in at $99? And quality e-readers for $49? Man, I love technology! |

A new iPple product in that size range might help iPple retain some market share, but iPple's sleek, stripped down units are never going to oust full featured machines from the marketplace.

But look at all their sales numbers. Or something. That's gotta count, right?

Apple is not going to drop the price of anything to compete. I would guess they will try to sell an iPad mini between $350 to $400. The sad thing is no matter what price they come out with many Apple die hard fans will buy it, even if they already have an iPad and an iPhone.

Can't really see Apple releasing an iPad Mini for a mere $250 unless it's so storage constricted that in practice, majority of people would go for the next step up model (likely at $350). |

There's no evidence this rumour is actually true. The fact that the exec said "probably with a 7.85-inch screen" significantly diminishes that chance. It's more likely that Apple asked for a prototype, much like they do for numerous products which never make it to market.

But if you look at the market for ~10 inch tablets, iPad is certainly taking by far the majority, and not leaving much left for the fully featured tablets. |

Personally I'd love a mini-iPad. I have an iPod touch which I basically use as a pocket tablet. Having a slightly bigger one that I can also use as an ereader on the go would be awesome. I like the quality of the iPad but it's so big and so expensive that I can't see myself buying one. A mini version for under $250 that fits in my pocket? Yes please. |

I don't see that happening, that would kill the iPod market. It's a tough decision; price it too low, it kills the iPod; price it too high, and the 10" iPad kills it. But, it is always better to have your own products competing against themselves, than the competition's (well, better for Apple, certainly not for the consumer). |

How about a compromise - a 5" iPod touch?

That would be fantastic. However, I don't think they'd do it because it kind of changes what an iPod touch is. An iPod touch is essentially a smartphone without the phone, a market that it currently has a stranglehold on because there are no competitors. Making it bigger means its now competing with all the other small-sized tablets like Kindle Fire. Plus I think that, although there are many people that use the iPod touch as a pocket-tablet, Apple still sees it as an mp3 player primarily, that can also use apps and surf the web. Making it bigger means it's no longer an iPod.
