It is not my personal opinion, see:

The addition of /run to the system structure is more recent than the above articles, but is not involved with this problem.

Thanks you, knc1, hawhill, and geekmaster for helping me on this issue.
I have replaced /bin and now my wi-fi seems to be working fine...
If there's any way I can repay the debt that I owe you guys, just ask.

I have learnt from this experience and have already made a backup to fall back to in case things go awry...

Word to the wise
Another issue you may come across with regards to WIFI and ~usbnetwork

Connect to Wifi, Enable ~usbnetwork, kindle drops to battery, turn back on.

Cant connect to wifi? stuck on 3G

Wifi component will say Cant Connect if you try by hand.

simply cycling the ~usbnetwork on and off will fix this issue.

Caught me out a few times
