Moving Storage to external SD card

Memory was getting a little cramped, so I finally moved the Library to the external SD card (32G).
Wow. When it says everything it really means everything. There is no "internal SD card" for storage anymore.
Seems to have done it successfully. Annotated documents and a Book I had open before the move all open fine again from the external SD.

This feature (move to SD) is good for sharing devices.
We can share the edge and put each sdcard for each users.

I have tried it and re-flash with golden firmware several months ago.
I think internal SD still in there but not "sdcard". it should be "intsdcard"

I've been on the fence about doing this.
How has the experience been for you thus far?
I read in another post that the the library response time takes a hit after making the switch.
Would someone care to comment on this?

Thanks,
D

The Storage tool no longer shows the Internal storage, so I thought it was deleted.

However, ES File Explorer still shows /intstorage contains the vfat.img file for the internal sd card.

It also shows /intsdcard with some stuff still in it.
/sdcard has everything that was in it before, plus everything that was on /intsdcard.
So, it looks like the post process after moving would be to delete the stuff remaining in /intsdcard.

Mounting the edge over USB shows the external SD card contents on the PC.

I don't notice any performance hit. Opening some purchased books seems as fast as it was before. I'm using a Patriot SDHC 32G Class 4 card.

Good to hear. Thank!
I'll have to make the switch soon. Constantly monitoring the 2Gb provided is annoying!

So no downsides to doing this? Was also considering.

So far, nothing bad to report.

I did the transfer shortly after the feature appeared. I have about 5 GBs of PDF books and articles, plus a few ePubs. Using a class 6 card, the operations actually feel snappier - Based on Ken's experience too, I suspect the internal SD card is the slower Class 4 variety. I have experienced absolutely no problems so far. I simply use the internal SD card for various backup purposes.

If you remove the SD card, does the eDGe "break"? Do apps still run (and do they still have their data intact, like the default browser favourites)?

Powered down, took out the SD card, powered back up.

There's an alert on the title bar "Removed SD card. SD card removed. Insert a new one."

The desktop widgets are all still where I left them, and the Photo widgets show their photos. Interesting.

The Browser Bookmarks list is intact.

The recent Book list in the Reader is empty.

However, the Recent Journals list is not empty.

The Storage app shows no storage.

The Library categories are present, but each icon (Books, Journals, and such) show an empty page. The last tag I was using is cleared.

Then I stuffed the SD card back in and saw the "Preparing SD card" alert in the title bar.

The Storage app now shows the SD card again. Files are present in the library.

So, it seems everything is back to normal.

Sounds like apps and their data are still stored internally, it's only Library files (the PDFs, ePUBs, MP3's, etc.) that actually reside on the SD card.
