While it's not a huge deal it would have been nice if they asked during the install or initial startup if folks wanted to change their file associations. |

I'm not positive on this, but I think some of their free books don't have DRM; so that could have generated that error too. I did a quick Google for that error message and got that it's usually because the file is .tpz. Got me - my knowledge is exhausted too.

And as it is the only file I have ever gotten from Amazon, I have no experience of their file formats. |

So has anyone with Kindle for PC and a Kindle tried downloading an eBook (with DRM) with Kindle for PC and then (via USB) loading the book onto the Kindle to find out if it is viewable? If not, will someone please do so so we can find out? Thanks.

We know what the Kindle PID is and how it is computed. What we don't know, as yet, is what is used for computing the PC PID. |

Does not work. Get an error stating "This selection cannot be opened. If you purchased this item from Amazon, you can try redownloading the item from Archived items in Home.

Kindle for PC seems to be like Kindle for iPod Touch - everything you download will have the .prc file extension but they are still .azw or .tpz or .azw1. .azw will convert, but the others are topaz and won't. Maybe now there will be enough demand that the hackers will break topaz.

Sorry but this is a myth (please see the Kindle Myth wiki). You may have as many Kindles or Kindle book reading devices as you like registered to one account. You may only *share* books on up to 6 devices (sometimes less depending on the book license).
I now have 7 devices registered to my account. |

Is there some way to tell from the Account page that you have exceeded your quota of six (or less) share devices for a particular book? If it's the first six to be registered, how can you tell which was registered last, and therefore can't share? |
