Lit files display a little odd

I have a bunch of books on .lit that I want to read on the kindle. I use convertLit to make them .htm and then put them into mobipocket creator to convert them into .mobi files.

However, the results I get are always oddly-justified and lack any indents and linebreaks. When I do PDFs in mobipocket creator, I get proper (full) justification, but oftentimes the paragraph indents and line breaks are removed. Am i doing something wrong or is this the best I can hope to get?

Here is an example of a .lit file converted to .mobi and how it displays on my kindle:

I used one of [dark reverser's] tools mentioned herein and got my books into an html format. Then I used html2mobi on a PC (the exe version) to create a file for my Kindle. Alignment clauses that are normally cancelled by an end paragraph mark </p> (dunno if that will display here, or not) were not cancelled. Thus, the chapter titles specified one thing, and the rest of the book carried it onward.

I wound up reading the whole book in right-justified mode. Ragged left, justified right. Boy, was that weird..... But at least I got to read it.

I wonder if mobiperl should do something to cancel formatting that normally disappears after end-paragraph?

When you made the Mobi format eBook, did you load the OPF file into Mobipocket Publisher?

I don't have the computer I that for handy, but I think I did the "open HTM(L?) file" and opened that. The OPF was in the same directory as that after convertLit ran, but I opened it as an HTML. Should I be using a different option?

Cory or me? I don't have anything but the mobiperl tools (Kindle target).

Oh, sorry. I'll butt out of the conversation.

lit2html has two undocumented flags --fixhtml and --fixhtmlbr. I do not remember exactly what they do but I introduced them to fix problems I discovered in some lit files I had. Maybe the problem I had is common. use one of the flags and see if it helps.

That might help Cory, but it won't help me. I didn't start with a LIT file; I started with an eReader file. (the format, not the device)

Cory, next time run Mobipocket Creator and then on the initial screen, select the open icon from the icon bar at the top. Then it will ask for you for the OPF file. Load that and then build and see what it is you end up with.

It is possible that there is a problem with the HTML that is causing the problem. But if using the OPF works, then that is a simple fix.

If it still doesn't fix the problem, you can try tompe's suggestion and see how that goes.

OK. I added the flags to html2mobi also and they will be in the next version (the use was "--fixhtml" or "--fixhtml --fixhtmlbr").

If you give me an example of the HTML code in your file that is problematic I can probably add a flag for it if the above flags do not work.

Here's a sample of the oddity of reading a book center justified (not too bad) or right justified. Tompe -- mobiperl is yours, isn't it? I was able to fix this by inserting <p align="left"> after each chapter heading, but I'd hate to do that to all my books. Maybe I'll just enjoy reading strangely!

Oh, I'll attached a small sample of the html for a chapter heading, and the align left line I added to fix it.

Yes, mobiperl and html2mobi are my programs. I cannot reconstruct the HTML code to get your problem. Could you give me the complete code for the chapter heading and two paragraphs following it? The example you included had </strong> and </h1> but no start tags so I suspect it is not compleat.

HarryT's Tutorial - How to Create a MobiPocket eBook may be of some help. It includes a section on editing HTML, although the HTML is from Book Designer.
