Hello everyone - here's the obligatory first post

After waiting for the Amazon Kindle forever, I decided to order a Sony PRS-505. Go figure, Amazon is announcing the Kindle on Monday (hopefully it "looks" different than the brutal pic that's been circulating).

I'm bummed that PDFs aren't automatically converted into readable lfr files by the Sony software when uploading them to the device. I'm equally bummed that a utility to do that doesn't come with the reader. How could they not think that people would want "readable" PDFs ???

Basic physics - there's no good way to read an A4 PDF on a device with 1/6 the screen size of A4. The Sony is sold primarily as a fiction reader, a market for which PDF is pretty irrevelent. It's just too small to use well for textbooks, etc. A larger format device, such as the iLiad, is necessary for that.

PDF is a horrible, HORRIBLE, eBook format. It's not what it's designed for, and it's not what it's good for. The limitations of the format are not Sony's fault.
