Those are all cities with huge Universities, right?
In the case of Virginia I'm thinking Naval Academy, are there others? |

There are many Universities in the Metro DC area, Annapolis is normally not included in that mix because it is a bit further out. There is George Mason, George Washingotn, American University, Georgetown, and a whole host of others. I don't think any of them are located in Alexandria.
Northern Virginia tends to be very well represented on the list of richest districts in the US. There are quite a few individuals running around with fancy degrees who work for Contractors or the Government. It is not surprising that one of those cities would show up on a list like this. |

The news here in St Louis were making a big deal out of it, because we're 18th. Yay, we're beating Atlanta....

I added a link to last year's list for comparison. The Top 5 are the same, except Cambridge and Alexandria switched places.

Interesting list. I would've liked to have seen more factoids about the other cities on the list.

I've not read the small print, but I would imagine this is just the cities with the most number of people buying from Amazon. As a resident (not a collage student) in Ann Arbor, I can tell you that we also have two independent bookstores (both with wonderful owners/sales people), a B&N (we used to have 3 Borders -- sigh), and uncounted used bookstores. And Ann Arbor is a pretty small city -- the entire population could fit in UM's football stadium with room to spare.
If there really was a contest for the most books read, I'd say bring it! |
