David Foster Wallace
Huge (though equally bittersweet and depressing) news for Wallace fans. It turns out he did indeed leave behind a substantial though not quite completed (hopefully not overly skeletal) third novel - The Pale King.
A new excerpt entitled - Wiggle Room, was published in this month’s New Yorker. There is also a long piece on his life, death, and the psychic pain it appears he put himself through while attempting to complete The Pale King. The piece also includes a multi-media work created by his wife, now widow, Karen Green - along with two marked up pages from the PK manuscript. The link: http://www.newyorker.com/ In case you’re interested and but also not aware, The Howling Fantods.com - a Wallace clearing house of sorts, has created a page devoted to news surrounding the publication of The PK (2010 is the date being kicked about) - with links to other excerpts that have appeared elsewhere - Good People, The Compliance Branch, etc. The link - http://www.thehowlingfantods.com/dfw/the-pale-king.html Sigh… Last edited by Good Old Neon; 03-02-2009 at 12:57 PM. |
