Plugin or custom column to show GB size of book

Good Afternoon,

This may be a silly question, but is there a way to show the "GB" size of a book in the master screen? I want to use this to know how many books I can put on my MP3 player as well as my flash drive. I have the formula to calculate by hand, but would like to have it available when deciding which books I want to add to my MP3 player and I won't get the message "not enough room on unit to transfer this file". I don't really know how to make new columns that generate information from another column and I have no idea what the plugin would be called if there is one. Thanks.

If MB is OK and you only have one format then maybe no need for new column - right click column title row, select Show Column, select Size, see 1st attachment

You may want to drag the column over to the left if its out of sight to the right.

If you have multiple formats then I think it displays total size of all files. I don't know how to show the size of a specific format in the main book list, but you can see them in the Edit metadata screen - see 2nd attachment

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize the different formats and their sizes were available in the "edit metadata" function. There is an option to show the file size by "selected" format, but it kept defaulting to the first format I had for each book. I unfortunately/fortunately found that you can also delete a format in this section as well. I had the great idea to create a "reading list" and remove all formats except TXT which I use in another program to create an MP3 file with narration. (I am one of those people who cannot just sit down and read a book, but can listen to my MP3 while doing other things, and actually have bought a "gadget" that plugs into my auxiliary port in my car that connects to the "headphone" outlet on my MP3 and will play through car speaker - LOVE IT. No different than driving and listening to radio.)

Back to Calibre - I thought I created a new "Reading list" and then using edit metadata in bulk deleted all formats but TXT.

Well - I guess I just lost my membership in MENSA - I performed the bulk edit on my main library Guess I will have to just sit still and recreate my Default library.

Thank you for all your help. It is exactly what I needed. I just decided to go a little further and completely destroy my library. Oh well, we are supposed to have thundershowers for next few days, give me something to do.

Another way to see the file sizes is to press 'o' on a book to open the book folder in your OS's file manager, here's that same book

I see the mod date when I hover there - the size is in brackets in plain sight; although I'd rather have mod date in plain sight and the size under hover.

Some might find it useful if hover over the format in Book Details showed file size and modify date

I'm happy with the o key - sometimes I have to press it twice, there must be a pattern, but I cant figure out what it is - not that I've tried v hard.
