Techy Question: Nook and SSL (Blank Page)

Hi Everyone,

I'm creating a Web-based Google Reader that will be skinned based on the E-Reader you're using. For the Nook, this means I'll be formatted so buttons will be available right in the LCD screen for jumping between articles, etc. I.E something like what you see in the attached image (That's actually a screen-cap from the emulator, most everything is working at this point).

In any event, my problem lies in logging in securely. I basically take your Google login info and pass it directly to Google via SSL and a cookie is then saved on the Nook. This is no problem. The problem is ensuring the Nook displays the HTTPS page to begin with.

For some reason, the Nook shows a blank page when using a self-signed certificate. Does anyone know how to get around this? And if not, does anyone know if the Nook will consider a RapidSSL cert valid?

Thanks,
Ben

By the way, if anyone is interested in being a beta-tester, let me know.

Sorry, I dont know anything about programming. But I'll be a beta tester if you need one...

Good to see someone developing for the nook...the possibility of third party applications is what put the nook above the kindle imo.

Also, if there was an app store where you could sell applications, I'd easily pay $5 (each) for an email, msn, irc application...Just sayin'

Edit: Btw you should ask the #nookdevs irc channel...they are geniuses.

Yea, I was actually offering to help on the nookdev's Google Reader app, but decided to build a web-based one instead since there are so many people out there with Nook's that aren't modded.

I figured out that the Nook will support a RapidSSL cert, so I'm just going to get one of those since their verified, and I'm sure that will make people feel safer using it.

I'll keep you posted once it's ready for testing.

Thanks,
Ben

Fmstrat - Nook and SSL

I am having problems with my original b/w nook getting it to display a https page for a Cisco wireless login.

This site is also using some kind of self signing cert.

Could I use the Rapid SSL for this issue as well?

Thanks for any information, links or directions you can send me.

Regards,

Mike

I would assume so, the catch is you'll need to do an internal DNS record for reverse lookup on the hostname, so that the Cisco's hostname matches what you register on the SSL cert.

Thanks,
Ben
