I doubt it. The Kindle Touch is in stock in other Amazon stores, such as the UK store. I think this is just a supply issue in the US store.

Amazon US has the WiFi KTouch available, it's just the 3G version thats OOS. The when or if thing is standard phrasing on Amazon when things are OOS.

I think we have a few firmware-peakers who make assumptions which cannot be substantiated and then speculate that this means there are new Kindles coming immediately. When I taught at the university I would bleed all over research papers that used pseudo-logic. What a load! New Kindles might appear, and they might appear sooner than we think, but these assumptions are ridiculous and should not be put forth as though they are fact.
One thing is for sure, we won't get any new Kindles before Amazon announces them and as far as I know Amazon has not even scheduled any conferences yet. I suspect we are at least a month or two away from an announcement, then possibly weeks later before any new devices ship. Last year they announced the Fire and Touch in late September but didn't start shipping until about 6 weeks later. |

Only amazon can "substantiate" our "educated guesses" (not assumptions). You have a way of making "firmware-peakers" sound so dirty. EDIT: Kindle Color Touch with capacitive touchscreen release date ESTIMATED 2012 September based on reports from "supply chain sources": http://authoradventures.blogspot.com...uch-color.html But then was quoted in a Reuters article as saying "not this year". The only announced update at this time is adding front-lit displays to existing models. Last edited by geekmaster; 08-03-2012 at 01:11 PM. |

One always has to treat these things with caution: a few months ago we were being told by those "in the know" that we would CERTAINLY get a front-lit Kindle in July .

Release dates have a habit of slipping. Release dates also affect the bottom line. Announcing a new product too early can slow sales of existing inventory. Sometimes new releases are delayed while existing inventory is being cleared out, or until the competition forces you to match their release date.

Digitimes = completely unreliable source. Amazon debunked the claims that the next kindle will have color eink. I think that the lighting is likely, the color is not going to happen and anything else is too speculative. It seems that Amazon likes to make more than one change for a new product, so there might be something else. But who can say?
As far as the out of stock thing-- if Amazon is planning on rolling out the next gen of kindles they probably have ceased production of the current gen. Eventually all of the kindles will be difficult to obtain, but that doesn't mean that we will see new kindles this very month! |

Only thing I really want from a new kindle is a plastic substrate screen.
