Alex (droid e-reader) by spring design

Anyone know about these devices. Starting to look a lot better than the nook I cancelled..

This thing looks much more capable than the nook. Its color LCD screen can surf the web and content can be transfered to the e-ink screen for reading. Looks like it could blow the nook out of the water (it hasn't yet been released).

Yes, the Alex does seem to be more multifunctional than the nook, and may be a good choice for those wanting that flexibility.

The only issue right now is that it may never see the light of day. Spring Design has a prototype, but apparently not really anything else needed to launch the device.

Apparently they'd been seeking a content partnership with Barnes & Noble as well as assistance in manufacturing/production and distribution channels.

Not to mention they haven't applied for FCC clearance yet.

So...that whole thing about being on the market by the end of the year? No chance.
