Kobo Wireless eReader in Walmart US – starting next week!
(From Kobo's Facebook blog)
http://blog.kobobooks.com/2010/10/21...ing-next-week/ BY NEIL ON OCTOBER 21, 2010 On Monday we started shipping the first Kobo Wireless eReaders to customers who pre-ordered the device in Canada, and starting next week it will be available for purchase at Borders and one of the largest discount department stores in the U.S. – Walmart! Building on our relationship with Walmart Canada, Kobo’s Wireless eReader will be available in 2500 US Walmart stores across the country starting next week. The Walmart customer values everyday low prices for quality goods, two principles that we also stand for here at Kobo. The Kobo Wireless eReader will be the opening price in the eReader category, thousands of free books available for download through the Kobo bookstore, today’s bestsellers and 100 free literary masterpieces pre-loaded. Furthermore, the Kobo eReader is easy-to-use and stylized, with our signature quilted back that makes reading comfortable and enjoyable. We are thrilled to see the Kobo Wireless eReader receiving mass distribution. This partnership further validates our promise and vision of making eReading available to everyone. |

Well, I guess that's it, then. All the major players are now selling at big box stores. This is going to be fun.

Probably only after they have had to endure at least 12 months of submissions and inquiries from the Australian book publishing cartel! I thought we were supposed to be aiming for free trade here? Obviously only when we are selling to an overseas country, not within Australia!

@GA Russell--My understanding is that some DRM free books are on the Kobo site, and one sees the indication that the books are DRM free when using the mobile applications, but not when viewing the website itself. This has never made much sense to me. I would download using Calibre for DRM free books so they would stay DRM free.

Thanks, taming. I just went to the website for the first time, and didn't see anything that looked interesting. We're spoiled by the MR library!

Whoever runs the Uni of Adelaide book site deserves a big vote of thanks! Other universities might note - putting this kind of content on your site, with some discreet advertising about your courses etc, will get a lot of web traffic. |
