Sending files to Asus Transformer Prime
At this moment the version 0.8.38 of Calibre does not automatically recognizes the Android tablet Asus Transformer Prime (TF201). This tablet runs the latest version of Android ICS. My windows 7 (64) recognizes the tablet automatically when I connect it by USB cable. The tablet had an internal memory capacity of 32 GB, and a microSD card slot as well (in which I have a 16GB card).
The standard factory application for ebooks is called MyLybrary which can handle the file formats: ePub, TXT and PDF.
The application MyLybrary scans automatically alle directories and subdirectories for these files. After installing Aldiko, Calibre still does not recognizes automatically the Transformer Prime. All plug-ins of Calibre are enabled.
Although there seems to be no set location for e-books, at this moment I use the directory /mnt/sdcard/eBooks (this directory is on the fixed internal memory).

Any questions necessary to clarify this I will gladly answer.

There is nothing Calibre can do if your device does not expose the needed file system area for access.
I suggest you use the Calibre Content Server to obtain books on your tablet.
The down side of having to use this method, is Calibre can't inventory (and show) what books are currently on your device.

Hey guys!

Because I have too have a transformer prime I was searching quite long for a solution or workaround.
Bad news: Like said in the posts before there is no solution

Good news: I created a workaround! Its a little selfcoded software which can connect calibre with your transformer prime. Until now it is only one way (calibre->tfp) but I am still trying to make it both ways.

What you need on your device is:
USB-Debuging - ON
Busybox installed

You don't need administrative privileges but they aren't bad either.

Until now tested on Win7 x64 and tfp with android 4.0.3

All you need to do is:
-unpack the archive into a folder
-choose the x32 file for Win 32-bit or x64 file for Win 64-bit
The other one you can delete!
-edit the Settings.ini until it fits your taste
(Edit: The folders you edit in the .ini have to exist already!!!)
-start the program
-click yes at both messageboxes
-follow the howto by clicking on the new icon in the taskbar and choosing howto
-plugin your device
-use calibre like you would do it with each other device!!!

I have the transformer prime and I love it. I have use a file program (ES File Explorer) that let's me see my home network and allows me to access all my books via my network. the other way I get books on my Tablet is to email them to myself using my google account. its pretty easy.

Hi!

Thats for sure another way to do it.

The great bonus of my little tool is that you can do the whole transfer with one click in calibre. You don't need to access the network via a file explorer or something else, you can just send the file via calibre to your device and red it with your ebook reader.

Once the program is set up its just easy to handle

Yesterday I improved the whole program and made it more customizable and easier to install.

You only have to start the program. Everything else will be configured while installing.

Hi

I think so!

The program requires android debug mode and busybox. Everything else is not really important. So if there is a way to connect the tf300t with the android debug bridge (adb) the program will work for sure!

Hmm, so does this mean this could theoretically work with all Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean Android devices? Guessing root is a requirement since I believe BusyBox needs root privileges.

Yes it means theoretically that every android device since honeycomb can use this program. Only I found out that there are some devices that don't connect properly with adb. This ones won't work.

The things I use in BusyBox don't require root privileges. But I don't know weither you can install BusyBox without root privileges. Would be great if somebody could test this ( my devices are both rooted so i can't)

You have to be rooted for Busybox to work.

Thanks for testing!

The only thing I do with busybox is creating folders. Cause ADB can't send a file to the device if the folder structure doesn't exist. If somebody knows a way to create folders via adb or via a program you don't need root for, this would be great!

Hey guys!

Good news! i found a way to create folders with adb so I don't need BusyBox anymore.

That means for you: You don't need a rooted device anymore. Now the software works with unrooted devices too!

To install the same as before; move file to folder you want to install it to and double-click on it. The rest will be made by the program!


I will update the program from now on via sourceforge!
