Patrick O'Brian Aubrey series $3.99 at Amazon, Google

I guess arcadata mentioned this in her thread, but Google Play has the Patrick O'Brian Aubrey series for $3.99 and Amazon has matched it (or vice versa).

Google

arcadata's mention of Amazon

Are the "lost" paragraphs fixed?

Thanks for the heads-up!
Out of curiosity, do the ebooks (FINALLY) contain the two infamous "lost" paragraphs that were missing in most previous editions?

The first of them is in HMS Surprise, read here.
An easy way to check is to search for the sentence:
Quote:
"Stourton's reputation was that of the hard-horse first lieutenant of the Narcissus."
The "lost" paragraph should be right above it.

The second is not as well known, it occurs in "Desolation Island".
One sentence is missing in the printed books:
Quote:
'But sir, as she herself confesses, she is with child.'
Without this sentence, Stephen's following comment makes no sense. Read about it on this archived thread; to find out if it's in the ebook, search for "serricunnium" - it should be two sentences earlier.

It's trivial to have these mistakes fixed in a newly prepared digital copy, will the publisher have bothered to do so?

They aren't in the HarperCollins eBooks that I have. Obviously not that "infamous" - I've been reading these books for many, many years, and this is the first I've heard of the matter .

I picked up the W. W. Norton eBooks in the recent sale, and neither of those paragraphs were in them.

Thanks for the replies, guys! Why am I not surprised

Maybe "infamous" is too strong a word... or I have just been hanging around the "Gunroom" for too long!

Well, now you know about them...

Funny thing is that I found out about the "Desolation Island" one first - I kept thinking that particular dialogue made no sense, and only when I looked it up did I find out that an entire paragraph was missing in HMS Suprise!
